Bodegas Berceo
Bodegas Berceo´s history is really close to the history of wine culture in the region of La Rioja. Its existence and foundation goes back to the XIX century, more specifically in 1801. Nowadays Bodegas Berceo are run by the fifth generation of the family Fernández de Manzanos, who are still working with the family Gurpegui Muga to keep their legacy. Each area and each valley of appellation Rioja has its own characteristics, which depend on the existing relationship between climate-ground-vine. Do not forget about the importance of the production techniques that have to be utilized in the elaboration. Together, they determine the features of each wine. Bodegas Berceo´s vineyards are distributed throughout different municipalities, which enables the exploitation of the different characteristics from each land, as well as the ones provided by each grape variety. This diversity is favorable to Bodegas Berceo as it makes it possible for them to create wines which show the potential of each area. “These are medium-bodied wines, with medium structure and the acidic characteristic of the wines elaborated in Rioja Alta. They have a flavor of wood but the fruit dominates, something which is ideal to let them evolve” -Primitivo Gurpegui. BODEGAS BERCEO WAS FOUNDED IN 1801. IT IS THE OLDEST WINERY OF THE CITY OF HARO, LOCATED IN THE HEART OF APPELLATION RIOJA. IT IS THE ONLY WINERY OF THAT TIME WITH A VERTICAL DESIGN THAT CONTINUES WORKING.
