Montecalvi
Our vineyards are among the finest in the Chianti Classico area, on sandstone/ clay soil at an altitude of 250 m above sea level and with ideal south/ south-east/ south-west exposures. We farm our vineyards (and all of our estate) organically and sustainably. Our estate is 10 hectares, with about four hectares under vine (and half a hectare under olives). Le Terrazze, our oldest and finest vineyard, was planted on dry stone wall terraces in 1932, predominantly to Sangiovese, but with a field blend of Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Malvasia Nera and Trebbiano. It is one of the oldest vineyards in Tuscany and each of the old, gnarled vines yields only a handful of grapes, thereby concentrating the aromas and characters. "It is Montecalviโs intimate size that lies behind the success of our wines. We know our vineyards like the back of our hand, helping us to tend to each, row by row, vine by vine, bunch by bunch. By the time harvest comes around, the grapes arriving in our cellar are the very best that the year can bring."
