Mastroberardino

Mastroberardino is one of Italy's most historic and influential wineries, with roots in Avellino reaching back to the mid-18th century when Pietro di Berardino founded the original estate. The winery was officially registered in 1878 by Cavalier Angelo Mastroberardino and has been in continuous family ownership for ten generations. Today led by Piero Mastroberardino, the estate spans 260 hectares across the heart of Campania's three DOCG zones — Taurasi, Greco di Tufo, and Fiano di Avellino. Mastroberardino is celebrated for single-handedly preserving Aglianico after phylloxera and World War II decimated the region. Antonio Mastroberardino, dubbed "the grape archaeologist," led the post-war revival that established Taurasi as the "Barolo of the South." The flagship Radici Taurasi, first released in 1986, remains one of southern Italy's greatest red wines. In 1996, the Italian government entrusted Mastroberardino with the Villa dei Misteri project — recreating the vineyards and wines of ancient Pompeii using authentic Roman-era viticultural techniques.
